Recommended progression path
You only need two units at any stage — one tank and one DPS. Supports like Deathlock work without upgrades. Each step below replaces the previous pair once you can afford it.
- 1Demonic Skeleton Archer + Demonic Bone Guard
- 2Demonic Skeleton Archer + Demonic Mighty Orc
- 3Demonic Hellfire Warlock + Demonic Mighty Orc
- 4Demonic Demon Lord + Demonic Skull King
S — Meta
5Skull King
The strongest tank in the game. Deep Recovery restores 40% max HP for free, and Pain Recovery heals on every hit taken, giving him effectively bottomless sustain. Expensive to obtain and upgrade, and lower-rarity tanks outperform him until you can afford the investment.
Best for
Doomfist
Added in Update 2. An off-tank that hits like a DPS — Overdrive grants +60% ATK and +60% attack speed at no cost, while Battle Recovery heals on every hit dealt. On the hardest stages he is often more valuable than Demon Lord thanks to the built-in lifesteal.
Best for
Demon Lord
The best pure DPS in the game. Demon Domain hits up to 8 enemies for 200% ATK, Demonic Poison adds damage over time on every hit, and his aura slows enemy attack and movement speed by 8%. Range 18 keeps him safe behind the line.
Best for
Mighty Orc
The tank you use for most of the mid game. Self Heal ticks every 2 seconds regardless of whether he is taking damage, which is why he out-sustains Blood Gargoyle by a wide margin. Mighty Smash also deals 60% of his max HP as damage, making him a real threat to bosses.
Best for
Deathlock
The best support in the game and the cheapest S-tier pick by far — it needs neither a Demonic mutation nor upgrades to earn its slot. Raise Skeleton Archers summons two free bodies each wave, and its aura gives melee allies +15% ATK and +20% DEF.
Best for
A — Very Good
6Demon Butcher
A solid off-tank that both heals and mitigates. Execute deals 250% ATK with 35% lifesteal and a further +50% damage below 30% HP. The catch is that he is not a large enough upgrade over Barbarian to justify the Mythic-tier cost for most players.
Best for
Bone Guard
By far the best early tank, and cheap enough to max out quickly. Bone Taunt pulls up to 3 enemies, Guard Shell grants a 125% ATK shield when hit, and his aura reduces damage taken for nearby allies by 8%. The one gap is healing — that is what pushes you toward Mighty Orc later.
Best for
Skeleton Archer
The single easiest unit to max out and the backbone of early progression at only 1 cost. Power Shot deals 200% ATK and Bone Pin stuns on hit — a stun that is genuinely strong against bosses. Higher-rarity DPS eventually outscales it, but nothing matches its cost efficiency early.
Best for
Lava Imp
Your next DPS target once Skeleton Archer is maxed. Burn Patch ignites up to 4 enemies and Burning Wound adds damage over time on hit. Weak as a first investment because the Archer is far cheaper to bring online.
Best for
Hellfire Warlock
A checkpoint-breaker. Hellfire Rain hits up to 7 enemies anywhere on the map for 200% ATK, which is exactly what you want when pushing a wall. Less useful for steady farming, where its AoE is not strong enough to speed up clears much.
Best for
Barbarian
Performs close to Demon Butcher while being much cheaper to upgrade, which makes it the better practical pick for most accounts. Execution Cut deals 300% ATK to a single target. Falls off once Mythic and Secret off-tanks come online.
Best for
B — Decent
4Grave Warlock
Similar to Lava Imp but trades single-target damage for wider AoE — Grave Fire hits up to 5 enemies at range 13. The lower single-target output makes it the weaker of the two for pushing progression.
Best for
Iron Skeleton
A reasonable early tank with self-healing built in — Self Repair ticks every 2 seconds and Iron Brace adds +6 DEF with 18% damage reduction. Not a large enough step up from Bone Guard to be a priority purchase.
Best for
Soul Collector
Its Soul Mark passive stacks +3% ATK per kill up to 20 stacks and carries across waves, so it does become respectable DPS eventually. The problem is the buffs themselves — both the numbers and the range fall short of other supports, making it a poor Legendary investment.
Best for
Blood Gargoyle
A serviceable damage sponge for unlocking checkpoints before Mighty Orc. Stone Blood deals 200% ATK with 55% lifesteal, but Blood Mend only heals when he is being hit — a much less reliable trigger than Mighty Orc's timer-based regen.
Best for
C — Weak
5Tomb Hound
Its passives look busy but do very little in practice — the stealth wears off the moment it lands a hit, and the slow is on a 6-second cooldown. One of the weakest melee DPS options available.
Best for
Imp Bomber
Delivers the same DPS per cost as Skeleton Archer but with worse abilities and no stun, so there is no reason to field it over the Archer. Death Blast at least does 200% ATK to 5 enemies when it dies.
Best for
Necromancer
Extremely low damage with no defensive tools, and its attack-speed aura only reaches range 10 with a modest 8% bonus. In almost every case a second DPS is the better use of the slot.
Best for
Cursed Acolyte
One of the worst damage-per-cost ratios in the game, and Weakening Hex adds nothing beyond a +20% damage-taken debuff on 3 enemies. No secondary utility to justify the slot.
Best for
Bone Grunt
The weakest tank in the game — 400 HP does not hold a line, and Heavy Slash is a plain 200% ATK hit. At the same 1 cost, Skeleton Archer contributes far more.

How these rankings work
Base stats are Level 1, un-mutated values. Every unit gains +20% ATK and HP per level, and mutations multiply on top: Shiny x1.3, Cursed x2.0, Demonic x2.5. Rankings weigh DPS or tanking per Cost and upgrade affordability, not rarity — a cheap unit you can max beats an expensive one you cannot. Stats and ability text are sourced from the Gamepur Update 2 tier list (2026-07-26); our own mutation multipliers independently match theirs. Not yet re-verified in game.
